Ingredients:
1 cup rice (white, brown, jasmine, basmati, or your preferred variety)
1 ½ – 2 cups water (depending on the type of rice)
Pinch of salt (optional)
1 tablespoon butter or oil (optional)
Instructions:
Rinse the Rice:
Rinse your rice under cold water until the water runs clear.
This removes excess starch and prevents the rice from becoming too sticky.
Measure the Water:
Use the correct water-to-rice ratio for your rice type:
For white rice: 1 cup rice to 1 ½ cups water.
For brown rice: 1 cup rice to 2 cups water.
For jasmine or basmati rice: 1 cup rice to 1 ¾ cups water.
Boil the Water: Bring the water to a boil in a pot with a tight-fitting lid. Add a pinch of salt and a tablespoon of butter or oil for extra flavor if desired.
Add the Rice: Once the water is boiling, add your rinsed rice and stir briefly to prevent sticking.
Simmer and Cover: Reduce the heat to low and cover the pot with a tight-fitting lid. Let it simmer gently, undisturbed, for the following time:
White rice: 18-20 minutes
Brown rice: 40-45 minutes
Jasmine or Basmati rice: 12-15 minutes
Let it Rest: Once the rice is done, remove the pot from the heat and let it sit, covered, for about 5 minutes. This allows the rice to firm up and makes it easier to fluff.
